product Review: Crest Pro-Health Invigorating Clean Mouthwash

I would like to start this product review by telling all of you out there reading this that I do not like mouthwash. Not a fan. I never buy it and think it’s a load of hooey and three minutes I could have spent doing something else, anything else. I don’t like the burn of mouthwash and in some cases I don’t like the medicinal taste of some mouthwashes. I think they are a crock. It was my opinion that they do nothing of merit. They just take up more room in the toothpaste aisle at the drugstore.

I was prescribed a fluoride rinse once by my dentist. I can’t remember what it was for, but it had something to do with strengthening my teeth. It felt like there was a film on my teeth after rinsing with it and I used it a few times and then stuck the rest of the bottle away in a cabinet and forgot about it.

Not a fan!

One afternoon I was having lunch with two of my best girlfriends and Jess pipes up with an update on a new mouthwash she was trying. Uh-oh, I thought, mouthwash. I worried a snagged cuticle on my fingernail and waited for the mouthwash talk to end. I decided not to be a negative nelly and to keep my thoughts on mouthwash to myself.

Both she and Kim were using this mouthwash and Jess started telling her how well it worked in removing plaque.

Plaque, you say?

What’s this about plaque?

That was when I tuned in.

I despise plaque! If I run my tongue over my molars and feel plaque I will drive myself crazy trying to dislodge it with my tongue. When that doesn’t work, I pull out the dental floss I keep in my purse and worry those back teeth until something comes loose. Hopefully it’s always the plaque and not my tooth or gums. I don’t care where I am either. If I’m driving in my car or pushing a shopping cart, plaque doesn’t stand a chance of staying in my mouth. It’s got to go!

If there was a mouthwash out there that truly removed plaque, well I could be on board. Maybe.

I asked both of them to expound on this miraculous plaque removal mouthwash they had discovered.

My friend Kim has the most beautiful teeth you’ll ever see. They are straight and perfect and fit together like puzzle pieces when she talks. They are also brilliantly white. She’s the one that has the smile that’s like a vortex. Jess also has beautiful teeth. Also straight and blinding pearly white choppers. I love it when she smiles because it’s like being smacked with a sunrise.

If you’re going to get advice about tooth care, these are your girls!!

“Katy, you won’t believe this, but this mouthwash actually works. I dry brush my teeth as well as brushing with toothpaste and even after that I still see plaque come off my teeth when I rinse with this stuff. It’s shocking!”

Note: Dry brushing is when you brush your teeth without using paste. It’s a great way to remove plaque.

What did they mean by seeing plaque come off? I was thoroughly intrigued now. I was also a vigorous tooth brusher. I brush for at least three or more minutes. I also dry brush on occasion. I take great pride in my brushing prowess and could not fathom how a stupid mouthwash could be better than my tooth brushing skills.

“When you spit it back out into the sink you can see pieces of plaque that you missed with your toothbrush. You can see it!”

Always the skeptic when it comes to new products, I resisted buying a bottle of this mouthwash until a few weeks later. I was standing in the toothpaste aisle and there it was on the shelf, just daring me to try it.

Crest Pro-Health Invigorating Clean Oral Rinse.

Which only comes in one size, I think. Extra large bottle.

I bought it and took it home. I went straight away to the bathroom sink and brushed my teeth really well. Then I sucked up a cap full of the rinse and swished it around in my mouth for about 3 minutes. While I was swishing I brushed my hair and inspected my eyebrows with the tweezers. You know, multitasking.

What I spit into the sink was truly mind blowing! Yes, I spit rinse into the sink, but mixed in were these tiny green chunks of crap that were plaque I had missed with my toothbrush. The mouthwash is green, okay? That’s why it was green. I would post a picture of it, but it’s just too gross. Okay it’s not roadkill gross, but I’m telling you what I saw and I am a skeptic. It was there!! It made me want to brush my teeth again!

I used it for a solid week and kept waiting for it to fail to live up to it’s claims and it never disappointed me once. I did get better at brushing my teeth and there were a few times I spit rinse out that was free of debris, but more times than not, I was spitting out plaque I missed.

But that’s not all it does!

It also leaves my teeth feeling cleaner throughout the day. I’m not kidding! Usually by noon my teeth feel like they need to be brushed again. They get fuzzy from eating and drinking and I’m sure my breath is no picnic either. Since I started using this mouthwash my teeth still feel slick and smooth at the end of the day! And yes, I’m still eating and drinking throughout the day just like before. It’s amazing!

For once a product actually does what it says it does.

Just in case you’re sitting over there wondering if the green chunks I spit out in my sink are just the product misbehaving I did a Google search and found that many people have had the same reactions. Some had more green or blue chunks than others, some had less,  and this is why:

“The active ingredient in Crest Pro-Health is CPC, as well as the blue or green color, and it can bind to bacteria and specks in your mouth, making them more visible when you spit into the sink. This is a sign that the product is working and is not harmful.”

Thank you Kim and Jess. My 🙂 is a lot brighter today because of you guys and it’s more than just because of the mouthwash.

  3. Hahahahahaha! This post has been clicked on in Google searches and linked back to, so I’m guessing a mouthwash is being discovered, though I can not take any credit. It’s awesome stuff! Have you tried it yet?

I was wondering if after using this product, after some time if you had any brown stains that appeared? Please check it out on amazon’s ratings. I too have been using this for over a year now and after some research can link my sudden teeth staining from this mouthwash. It’s pretty scary especially when it makes you look like you don’t go to the dentist due to the staining and I made the mistake of using a whitening strip. My teeth were whiter, however the stains were still there and even more obvious. My dentist was able to remove most of the serious front stains, but it’s something to take seriously trust me!

    • I waited until after my dental appointment to come back and respond to concerns about staining.

      And you are correct!

I had noticed odd brown stains showing up between my teeth over a period of several weeks, but I attributed it to vaping and coffee. Turns out it was from the mouthwash!!

Not only was it staining my teeth on the front, but the backs of my teeth were solid brown! My dental hygienist also told me that for the first time in my life I had tartar build-up! I occasionally have some plaque, but I had never had tartar. Tartar is the next stage of plaque and tarter is the road to gum disease.

I have stopped using the mouthwash and the staining of my teeth has also stopped. The only change I made was discontinuing the mouthwash, so it’s pretty obvious to me what the problem was.

Some folks don;t have that kind of a reaction to fluoride, but I guess I do. That is toted as the chemical that stains the teeth brown.

I think it's so nice to see your thoughts! Please share!
