the Elephant in the room

Have you ever wondered why full grown elephants can be held captive by a small chain on a stake in the ground? Adult elephants in the wild can rip huge trees out of the ground, roots and all, but here are these massive beasts being held captive by a small chain on a stake.

That’s because these stakes and chains are put on them as babies. When they are young they are too weak to pull the stakes up to escape so by the time they mature into adult elephants they still think they can’t free themselves. So they stay captive because they have no idea how strong they really are.

Sometimes we find ourselves making the same mistakes in our relationships over and over again. The main reason is that these mistakes are what we know best. These people that hurt us, that we allow to abuse us, are where we have been trained to go to seek comfort. These are patterns and habits we have known our whole lives.

We have no idea how worthy we are and so we stay stuck.

We are elephants chained to a tiny stake.

Trust me, you are strong enough to be really loved by people. Rip that stake up by it’s roots and be free.
